AsiaTAC Fall 2018 | September 10-12

September 10

Two half-day training sessions open to both MTI Members and Non-Members.

Training Session 1
Ceramic Refractory Materials
Presented by Koch Knight
Many engineers and managers are not very familiar with ceramic and its use for industrial applications. Ceramic refractory materials can offer solutions where metals and polymers are somewhat limited. This training session will introduce basic concepts and knowledge of ceramics and provide examples of application of ceramic refractory materials in several industries. This session is aimed to expand the audience’s knowledge beyond metal alloys and polymers. It will help engineers to select the optimum solutions when it comes to heat and corrosion.
Training Session 2
Repair Technology – Fixing of Corroded/Degraded/Damaged Equipment

Presented by Gary Coates/Nickel Institute and Pradip Khaladkar/MTI

Part I – Metallic Materials: Stainless Steel, Nickel Alloys and Titanium
Part II – Polymer Based Materials

When equipment or piping systems are damaged, or unexpected serious corrosion has been found, there is often a need to make quick repairs until proper repairs or replacement can be made. Part 1 will look at how to approach and execute repairs to metallic components in SS, Ni alloy and titanium, both on a short term basis and a longer term basis. Most but not all repairs will require some welding, so that is the major concern. Part 2 will look at how to approach and execute repairs to FRP and lined equipment both on a short term basis and a longer term basis. Repairs to thermoplastic linings could require some welding, so that is the major concern. Criteria of repairing vs replacing will be discussed.
