Hydrogen Peroxide & Copper

    Hello,

In Europe (silver stabilized) Hydrogen Peroxide is increasingly used for desinfection of water, e.g. to counteract Legionella contamination in hospital water circuits etc... The hydrogen peroxide is typically dosed in concentrations of 10 to 20 ppm.

Recently, we have seen an increasing number of corrosion problems in copper tubing/piping systems, maybe predominantly in regions with higher water flow velocity. In such regions the black copper oxide [Cu(II) oxide] is also often found to be spalled of from the base material.

Any precize data on the corrosion behavior of Cu (i.e. with Ag stabilizer) in such low-concentration H2O2 solutions?

    Thanks for letting us know.
