PTFE Bellows Expansion joints Integrity (351)

 View Only

PTFE bellows expansion joints are routinely used in chemical plants. Typically they do not have a metallic housing the way other PTFE equipment and piping have. PTFE is not a structural material hence a housing is needed. Failures of them resulting in safety incidents have occurred resulting in lawsuits as well as banning their use in many companies. The project objective is to collect the state of the art information and create a guideline which promotes the safe and reliable use of them.. Of specific interest is the work done in Europe by a working group led by TUV, BASF and Bayer.
