TRACK: Non-Metallics
Acousto Ultrasonic Echo (AU-E) is a non-destructive method of measuring refractory thickness and condition in operating metallurgical furnaces. Reliable monitoring and control of metallurgical furnaces is essential to ensure safe furnace operation and optimize furnace campaign life.  Careful monitoring of the thickness and condition of refractory lining can allow preemptive detection of refractory wear, avoid sudden furnace failures and unscheduled shutdowns. This lining information plays a critical role in allowing furnace operators to confidently prolong reline dates.  Recent technological breakthroughs have allowed for more accurate measurements of refractory lining than ever before and given insight into the change in physical properties of the refractory brick.
