St. Louis, Mo. – The Materials Technology Institute (MTI) is delighted to announce Asger Sturlason will support MTI European companies and the organization as Associate Director (AD). He assumes the role from former AD Rolf Kirchheiner, who stepped down near the end of 2023.

Sturlason is a mechanical engineer with more than 35 years of experience in consulting services and large global companies within the fields of materials selection, metals failure analysis, materials testing and non-destructive inspection, cast iron and steel metallurgy and technology, global supplier approval and capability assessments, and six sigma quality tools. He also has operating experience in metallography and electron microscopy and advanced material testing, such as fatigue, creep and fracture mechanics.

Throughout his career, Sturlason previously held employment with the Technical University of Denmark, the Danish Technological Institute, Vestas Technology R&D, and Vestas Power Solutions. In 2021, he founded STURLASON.DK to continue working as a consultant in materials and processes. He also freelances for DIS/CREADIS and Stiesdal Offshore in Denmark, which focus on wind turbines.

MTI looks forward to Sturlason’s contributions. His extensive industry background and connections will be an asset to his role in supporting the organization’s efforts to expand project work within EuroTAC, as well as the MTI Board of Directors’ strategic plan to retain and grow membership.

“I am pleased that Asger Sturlason will be filling the role of European Associate Director,” shares Heather Allain, MTI Executive Director. “Asger’s project management and execution skills, together with his background in metallurgy and failure analysis will bring the right combination of strengths to support our European meetings, members, and project work. Please join me in welcoming Asger to the MTI network!”
