Notes from Project #385 (January 20, 2022)
These are my notes from the meeting. I reviewed the transcript and tried to pull some of the key discussion points from the transcript but it was pretty choppy.

Byron presented a draft agenda outlined developed by Nate Sutton for the Bioprocessing Roundtable Meeting at the June AmeriTAC Meeting in Kansas City.
Monday – focus balanced between MTI members and visitor companies coming specifically for symposium
- Overview of Biofuels – definitions, processes, outlook & interest (DOE /E. Chant contact?).
- Biofuels – Laws, regulations, government-business perspective (Haldor Topsoe possibly?)
- Bio-fuels – Damage mechanisms, materials selection and use for new and converted units (E2G could give if we don't find another)
- Overview of Molecular recycling/plastics to fuels (MTI member already doing this?)
- Bringing materials engineering to startups/new technologies – with a focus on molecular recycling.
- Leveraging IOWs to make new 'sustainable' process technologies profitable
- MTI's role in supporting sustainability in the process industries
Structured forums – focus geared towards established MTI members:
- Materials engineering & fixed equipment reliability audits for facility acquisitions – a focus on the things to look for in newly-acquired (and potential) assets.
- Scaling up new process technology – But did you think about damage mechanisms?
- Sustainability in Fabrication - guidelines for material purchasing requirements (suggested by Mark vdBr)
This agenda was presented before the inclusion of the non-metals group.
Some discussion about changing the title of the Knowledge Roundtable. The group decided to focus on the first three bullets for the Monday afternoon program:
- Overview of Biofuels
- Biofuels – Laws, Regulations, Government – Business Perspective
- Biofuels – Damage Mechanisms, Materials Section and Use for New and Converted Units
The program will begin at 1:00 pm on Monday, due to Sunday being Father's Day. Other presentations will be Structured Forums.
An idea of developing the Molecular Recycling/Plastics to Fuels could be a potential webinar or another Structured Forum at a future AmeriTAC meeting.
For the Damage Mechanism topic, Byron will reach out to Marathon and Phillips to see if they not only are interested in presenting but interested in participating in the planning of the project. The Damage Mechanism topic will be a panel discussion.
The group agreed the Monday afternoon program will be specific to biofuels instead of sustainable process technologies. This will also include renewable diesel.
The next meeting will be Friday, February 18th at 9:00 am CST. Jeremy will extend the invite to the other team members. There will be no meeting at the AmeriTAC meeting in Orlando.
