The project consists of data collection from literature failure reports and member company surveys stating as much as feasible the pertinent failure conditions such as:
- Metallurgy
- Operating temperature range
- Time to cracking
- Wall thickness
- Microstructure that cracked (Weld/HAZ/Base/grain size/heat treatment condition at fabrication/repaired or not/etc)
- Weld geometry and technique
- Estimate of % of cold work
- Repair welded (before or after PWHT/service)
- any other factors
This information would be used to create “Nelson curve style maps” that delineate stress relaxation cracking conditions for certain alloys or alloy families.
